Dear Mr. Zombie, WTH?

Rob Zombie Woolite Commercial

I understand that sometimes (okay, many times), actors and even directors have to do projects that aren't the most glamorous in order to pay the bills. However, this one really takes the cake. Horror-rocker and movie director Rob Zombie has directed a commercial for Woolite.

That's right. The man who brought you the twisted backwoods tale of 'House of 1000 Corpses' and the excellent 'The Devil's Rejects,' brings you a story of torture and...clothing; complete with a really bad character design and cheesy fonts.

But as Billy-Bob Thornton said in 'Bad Santa": "They can't all be winners, kid."

Let's hope that his upcoming movie 'Lords of Salem' gives Rob a chance to redeem himself of this atrocious commitment to film.

Transformers 3 in Theaters, Now With Exploding Explosions

Transformers 3

So apparently Michael Bay recently admitted that Transformers 2 was a steaming pile of worthlessness and promised that third installment, Transformers: Dark of the Moon would put him back in good standing with fans. Well, Mikey, it's no looking so good for you.

Critics are slamming the movie, which is no surprise, but I don't expect a 50 year-old critic to enjoy a movie based on a line of toys he didn't grow up with. So the real quality of the movie lies in the hands of the fans and the fans are saying that the effects are amazing, but that the movie lacks heart.

Wait a second...do robots have hearts? Oh, wait, you're talking about Optimus Prime's Matrix of Leadership, right? Well, I guess that's LIKE a heart. I mean, he did die in the animated movie when it was removed from his...sorry, I was having a nerd moment. I'm back.

Anyways, I supposed it is what it is. It's a movie about robots who transform into vehicles (and sometimes dinosaurs!) and it's guaranteed to have lots of explosions. So, as long as you go with that expectation, you should come away happy- which is the same way I watched the first two. Plus, they had this.

First Look at 'The Hobbit'

Most geeks agree that of all fantasy and sci-fi movie adaptations, the Lord of the Rings trilogy stands among the best. Lord of the Rings was finished in 2003 and while Jackson has worked on several films, including 'District 9,' none have come close to the acclaim he received for his work with the One Ring. Until now.

Enter, 'The Hobbit.' This week, a few stills were released to Entertainment Weekly in which we see younger Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and Gandalf (Ian McKellen), almost 80 years before the events in LOTR.

This is going to be awesome.

'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,' the first of two films is set to be released December, 2012.

Troll Hunter: The E True Hollywood Story

trollhunter

In another ridiculous bid to make some money on something completely unknown, Hollywood is remaking the recent film Troll Hunter. Wait...really? Is that necessary?

I think this is what's called the 'bottom of the barrel.' Are these Hollywood execs so desperate for content that they would take a chance to remake something nobody's ever seen?

I know it was available On-Demand and was just domestically released in limited theaters, but I didn't think it had achieved a status that would have Harry Potter helmer Chris Columbus signing on. Columbus is quoted as saying Troll Hunter was an "amazing moviegoing experience." Suuuure. Whatever helps you sleep at night, Chris.

Dark Tower Game Greenlighted?

Dark Tower Comic

Well, it's taken almost 30 years, but be prepared for Dark Tower...everything. The new trilogy, set to be directed by Ron Howard, looks to be getting the full monty, including a possible game or series of games. In an interview with Deadline, Ron Howard states that certain elements "would make fantastic narrative gaming opportunities" and that his camp has "got gaming designers and there is enthusiasm for that."

As with all things, this has to be taken with a grain of salt. A certain number of speculations has to be expected when talking about the adaptation of a series with such a huge following. However, gamers are already salivating at the prospect of a Dark Tower game and if Hollywood knows what's good for them, they'll see the dollar signs. Unfortunately, the price of such realization often comes at the cost of integrity. Yes, most games made from movies belong in a desert landfill.

The gaming industry has already eclipsed Hollywood to become the 800-pound gorilla, with a whopping $65 billion in sales for 2010.

New Red Band 'Conan the Barbarian' Trailer

Conan 2011 Remake

First it was the Clash of the Titans remake, now it's Conan the Barbarian's turn. Jason Momoa, of Game of Thrones fame, reprises the legendary barbarian's role in the new film.

Now I have to admit that I'm a huge fan of the old comics as well as the Schwarzenegger movies, but I'm just not sold on this remake. Momoa is less muscled than his Austrian predecessor and has more speaking lines, which is already a red flag. "When a barbarian feels thirst, it is a thirst for blood." That's already about 10 words too many when it comes to the silent Cimmerian. Robert E. Howard must be rolling in his grave.

At the very least, it will contain a healthy dose of violence and scantily clad women (and men, if that's your thing). Who knows, maybe Arnold will make a cameo as and yell "CROM!" one last time as he sags into the sunset.

iPhone 5 Coming this August, New Design?

Iphone 5 Concept

Initial reports were that Apple had pushed the iPhone 5 to 2012 and would simply be updating the iPhone 4 (similar to the 3GS release) this Fall. However, reports today are suggesting that Apples next release will indeed be the iPhone 5 and a complete redesign.
